Saving Samantha: An American Girl Doll

I used to have a blog devoted to this content, but now it has been minimized to page being most of my discussion is distributed via my vlog on YouTube. But, to let all you know that checked in before, I am still working with my dolls, but college life has led me to prioritize my homework above my hobbies at the moment. So, hear is a summary of what my blog was about:

One of my passions is collecting dolls. I started when I was about 10 years old. I made enough money to purchase my first doll, which was a porcelain bridal doll made by a local artist. She is still my most treasured possession but my collection has been increasing dramatically.

There was one particular doll I was the most fond of all my life, The American Girl Doll Collection: Samantha Doll. I read all her books, which I borrowed from our local public library and wanted the doll so, so, so badly. However, her price tag was so, so, so large. By the time I graduated and got a job to earn enough money, the American Girl Doll company discontinued producing her. I was very upset as I wanted a doll of my own.

A few years later, I set up an eBay account to sell some of my items I did not care to have anymore and I did a quick search to see if anyone was selling a Samantha Doll by chance. Sure enough, about a dozen auctions came up in my search ranging for dolls and were way past there better days to ones still mint in the box. And, those dolls prices ranged from cheap to pricey. All the prices were in line with the condition of the doll. I purchased a few and realized that over the years, Samantha had undergone a makeover. I managed to purchase three of the four Samantha varieties excluding the late 1980s white-bodied dolls that are more rare. (I hope that I can purchase one of those too, but someday in the later future.)

I also wanted to learn more on how I could restore those dolls. That is where project "Saving Samantha" began. It led me to create some YouTube videos to share my findings with others who are also devoted to the preservation, collection, and maintenance of these dolls. You can find my videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/meliannrobe.

And, I know these dolls alone cost money but so do their accessories. That is why I became a DIY and created my own accessories and outfits for my dolls displays. I love to crochet so many times I use up skeins of yarn making blankets for the dolls to use. I have also started selling these items through my eBay account, and you can find my current listings here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/melindasclosetfinds/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=.
