We have had the worst fall ever! It rains pretty much everyday. The chill in the air gets to your bones. And, all you want to do is curl up inside the house where the heat is. This, of course, spells disaster to my budget as I start scanning Amazon for items to purchase for Christmas. Yes, I already have Christmas songs playing in my head because of the weather.
Well, I came across a slew of good finds on Amazon to fulfill my family member's wishlists. And, I found a pretty good deal for myself, too.
Turns out that this mandolin was more than I expected coming from the Amazon warehouse. It is very nice! "Joy to the World" was fairly easy as you place a scale backwards for the first two stanzas. I can now play "Amazing Grace." I even got my mandolin in tune thanks to an iPad Tuner app I found!
Glad to have fun indoors with this instrument instead of sitting away depressed looking outside at the dreary cloudy days.
Hope you all are having a better fall season than we are!
Being we moved our chickens into the barn with a new pen, my old feeders in my chicken coop were just not working out. My feeders were ones that hooked on to the hardware cloth sides of the chicken run. Well, now my coop has boards going all the way around where I can't hang the feeders. I nestled them in the corners of the pen, but my chickens would always knock them over spilling feed everywhere. I was wasting so much feed from this as it got scratched under the straw, so I had to find something and fast!
I have had this feeder for about a month and it is holding up well. It is very easy to scoop feed inside the unit and the feed has been kept much cleaner. I do not have anymore issues of spilled feed or waste! That is a big deal because chicken feed is not cheap and my birds are going to need plenty of it when the snow flies. I highly recommend giving this a try for a backyard chicken owner that has the space in their coop or pen. I also felt the price was real reasonable that if you had 20+ chickens you could buy multiple units and satisfy your flock.

So, I went to my local Family Dollar store to get some last minute items I needed and also to browse new "all season" furnishings and decor for the bathroom and kitchen remodel work we have been doing. Little did I know that my store had just stocked all the fall season decor that morning. I saw this village set and resisted my horrible impulse to purchase. Well, I regretted it all night long. I went back to the store with my Mom to find that half of the sets were already gone. She said if I didn't buy the set, she would. Well, I love village sets more than her so...
Isn't this the neatest fall set ever! I love the farm theme. I just wish there were more options for buildings like a Christmas village set has. For instance, they could have had a chicken coop, a horse or old time tractor pulling a hay rack for those hay rides, apple trees to make an orchard, or even a small corn field. All the items I think of when I think fall are in this set, though. They feature pumpkins, fall leaves, and even pilgrims if you want to do the Thanksgiving look.
I am planning on using the set during the entire fall season from September through November. I will just add the pilgrims and cornucopia pieces after the Halloween season has passed. Crossing my fingers that next year, my store will have more pieces to add to my new collection.
Well, the plumber didn't show. Actually, several didn't show. We called each plumber in our area, but they were either out on vacation, had other projects they were working on, or just plain didn't want to come out and work on a weekend. Well, I got news for you! We can't just sit there wasting all this water and electricity on a large water problem like this. So, we took matters into our own hands. We knew we had to begin by finding the root cause of the problem. Fortunately, there are no trees near the area, so we didn't actually have to deal with tree roots causing the problem. But, we do have rust issues to contend with so it didn't surprise us that there was a little hole that all this water was seeping out of. Finding that hole was another story.
As a plumber, you have to get down and dirty. So, this was a good opportunity for us to break out the big equipment and to show off what our Woods 1050 Backhoe can do.
Normally we use this backhoe when we are tiling the fields. But, as you can see, it works good for finding underground water pipes. We did find where the problem was and were able to fix it ourselves. However, none of us are master plumbers in our family, so fingers crossed that the fix holds. I don't want to have one of our main water lines on the farm leak during winter, especially when we are planning on bringing another group of cattle in.
Have you ever had one of those days where you just had to clean out your closet? I mean the day where you cannot find anything you are looking for, you are so frustrated, and just start pitching everything in sight? Well, I had one of those days. I was looking for a pair of shoes of all things and couldn't believe all the junk that had accumulated in there. One of the boxes that got thrown out was my old AeroGarden Bounty box. The unit itself has a spot on my table, but I had kept the box for about a year as it had loose leaflets, some accessories I haven't used yet, and oh yeah, the herb kit.
I just don't cook with fresh herbs and wanted the aerogarden more to grow lettuce during the cold winter months for fresh salads and sandwiches then to have a fistful of basil on hand. To each his or her own. But, I was curious to see if those herbs would grow. I mean afterall, they had been sitting in my closet for about a year. So, another customer review video was born! Take a look:
The herb kit worked out better than I thought! I didn't check to see if I could get a guaranteed replacement of the chives being they didn't sprout. I know Miracle Gro will honor those requests when you purchase the kit. But, I didn't care to get a replacement being these would be going out in my garden outside. Like I said before, I am not much of an herb fan.

Being able to use it over the weekend. I like my purchase. I had some black paint for metal on hand to do some touch up work. I would rate this product 3 stars though because it wasn't built right and for the money these cost, it should have come with better quality materials. But, the overall effect is exactly what I was hoping for. It is a very comfortable chair!
Here is a link to the chair I purchased just in the color orange instead of the blue. I guess they sold out of my color before I was able to upload my video. http://www.costway.com/home-garden-36/lawn-garden/outdoor-living/hammocks/hanging-chaise-lounge-chair-arc-stand-air-porch-swing-hammock-canopy-orange.html
